Piston-Type Air Compressors have tanks that store compressed air. When the pressure in the tank reaches a specific level the motor shuts off. As compressed air is used from the holding tank (and therefore the pressure inside drops) the motor restarts to restore the pressure. Compresses air pressure settings are set according to the operators needs.

Two Stage Air Compressors have two pistons that compress air and feed it to a storage tank. The first piston compresses air and feeds it through a valve to the second piston which further compresses the air and delivers it to a storage tank. The higher compression results in more air being stored for future use and a more efficient system than a one stage process. Less heat is produced within this air compressor which reduces the wear and tear (and hence life) of the air compressor.

This two-stage air compression system is used within commercial heavy-duty air compressors with psi maximum ratings above 150. The two-stage air compressors are used within workshops for continuous use of compressed air. They are normallly used within industrial, commercial and the automotive industries where a reliable compressed air source is required.
